Other at large bowls for Big East teams are: St. Petersburg Bowl (FL), Mineke Car Care Bowl (NC), Papa John's Bowl (AL), Sun Bowl (TX), and the Gator Bowl (FL). The Big East winner will probably go to the Orange Bowl, Scout.com predicts Pitt will participate in that game.

There is plenty of season left and the Big East is still up for grabs. If you are a UConn fan you have to hope USF beats Rutgers and Louisville beats Cincinnati this week. And of course you have to hope for a UConn win over the Orangemen. This scenario would move Rutgers out of UConn's way with three Big East losses and also put UConn over Cincinnati in the standings because UConn beat Cincy earlier this year. If all the cards fall right with the rest of the Big East teams and UConn sweeps out the rest of the season, the Huskies can pick up their first ever out right Big East title.

When I go to UConn's bowl game this year I'd rather not have to freeze my ass off in Canada, going back to Charlotte would be nice for the car care bowl, but a trip to Florida for the Orange bowl would be ideal. And its not even all that unlikely.

Steve Sam.

UConn Sports Schedule November 10th-16th

Men's Basketball: Friday 11/14 7:30 pm
vs. Western Carolina (Gampel Pavilion)

Football: Saturday 11/15 7 pm
@Syracuse (ESPNU)

Men's Soccer: NCAA Tournament TBD

Women's Basketball: Wednesday 11/12 7 pm
Exhibition vs. Team SRP (Hartford Civic Center)

Field Hockey: NCAA Tournament TBD

Men's Ice Hockey: Tuesday 11/11 7:05 pm
vs. Yale

Saturday 11/15 3:05 pm, and Sunday 11/16 3:05 pm
@ Canisius

Women's Ice Hockey: Thursday 11/13 7 pm
@ Boston College

Sunday 11/16 2 pm
@ Providence

World Series (posted by Steve Byrne (the good steve))

Well, the Phall Classic is over. Another year, another extremely boring world series. Its been 5 years now since a World Series went at least 6 games, when the Florida Marlins beat the Yankees in 2003 behind Josh Beckett. Since then, the fall classic has gone as follows: 4 game sweep, 4 game sweep, 5 ugly error-filled games, 4 game sweep, and finally this year...5 games, the last of which took 3 days.
What has happened to our beloved pastime? It isn't as if every series since '03 has been a lopsided affair, at least talent-wise, when you look at it on paper. Including 2003, in fact, of the 3 series that have looked like they would be quick jobs, 2 were won by the team no one expected. In 2003 the Marlins came from nowhere, and in 2006 the Cardinals squeezed into the playoffs with an abysmal (for a playoff team) 83-78 record and took down the upstart Detroit Tigers. Only the 2007 Red Sox really did what was expected and disposed of the Rockies in a timely manner.
The other series, though, seem to have been very evenly matched. In 2004 the Red Sox had just come out of a grueling 7-game series with the Yankees to face the Cardinals, the team with baseball's best record that year at 105-57. Everyone expected a hard-fought series, but the Cardinals just rolled over and died. In 2005, it was thought that Roy Oswalt, Brad Lidge, Roger Clemens, and Andy Pettitte would at least match up evenly with Chicago's hot pitching staff, which they actually did with the exception of Lidge, as all 4 games were decided by 2 runs or less.
Now we come to this year. The mighty, young, up-and-coming Rays breezed by Chicago in the first round and then took down division rival and defending champion Boston in the ALCS. They had all of the momentum coming in to this series, but then they started playing like the Devil Rays instead of the Rays. Fundamental mistakes in the field and a complete lack of offense allowed the Rays to beat themselves more than the Phillies beat them. This is not to take anything away from the Phillies, who have a great core of players in Hamels, Rollins, Utley, and Howard, but they did not play well either. Philadelphia left 104 men on base in the series. One-hundred and four men in 45 innings, for those of you keeping track. Usually when a team does that, they don't win, but the Rays managed to find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Good for the Phillies though, I'm happy for their fans and city, now I really just want to continue complaining about how much the past few series have sucked.
Now, I can't really think of any real reason as to why it just so happens that the last 5 fall classics have been complete yawners, but I would like to think it is because the players really care for the fans. In my little fantasy world, I imagine that the players on one team have heard what Joe Buck and Tim McCarver sound like and decided to spare us from the torment as much as they could, so they went out and won asap. After all, its the least they could do in exchange for the money that gets poured into them by the fans, aside from maybe throwing a fastball at McCarver's face. They've all heard McCarver mispronounce their names, or just plain call them by the wrong name, so they're trying to end the misery as soon as they can. I'd like to think that anyway, since there is no other excuse for every series being this bad.
Now, I have one more analogy before I shut up. This just came to my mind because I am a Red Sox fan and Steve and Nils are Yankee fans, and I'm sure many others are in the same boat as us. Boston and New York fans, you have no right to complain about your team not making it far this year, or in other recent years. Our teams have had enough time on top, and it is time to share the spotlight. Lets say that the Yankees are Madonna, for example. They've had their nice little run, they were a lot of fun to watch a few years back and they were exciting, but now they are just getting old and washed up, and people are just getting bored with it. Sure they will have a big hit and reach the top of the charts every now and then, but there time in the spotlight is really done. The Red Sox, meanwhile, are Brittany Spears - simply a slightly younger version of Madonna. They came storming onto the scene, shared the spotlight with the Yankees for a little while just like Madonna and Brittany shared it when they made out on stage, were fun and exciting to see, everyone jumped onto the bandwagon....and then they shaved their heads and had babies. They finally quit their drug (Manny) and try to check into the Jason Bay rehab clinic, but it just wasn't as fun any more. Disclaimer: I'm the Sox got rid of Manny and I love Jason Bay, but I'm just making a point.
The Tampa Bay Rays have now come in and ushered out Brittany and Madonna...they are the Katy Perry of baseball, kissing girls and liking it and getting a whole lot of fans out of it. The only problem is they lost to the Christina Aguilera Phillies, that team that was always there and had its loyal fans, but no one else really cared.
